Το ότι σε ψέγουν δεν είναι ελάττωμά σου,

Γιατί δυσφήμισαν πάλι την ομορφιά.

Το στόλισμά της υποπτεύονται, φαντάσου,

Σαν στον παράδεισο κοράκι που πετά.

Φρόνιμη να ‘σαι, δησφημώντας σ’ επαινούνε

Και την αξία σου κι ο χρόνος σ’ αγαπά.

Τα πιο γλυκά άνθη το σκουλήκι αγαπούνε,

Και η ανθοφορία σου ποτέ δεν σταματά.

Έχεις γλιτώσει απ’ την ενέδρα που τα νιάτα

Κι ο πειρασμός σου στήσαν. Ο βληθείς νικά.

Κι ωστόσο δεν μπορεί ο έπαινος για πάντα
